We will waiting for your participation on this workshop, thank you!

Introduction and scope

This workshop is intended to present an opportunity for scientists in tropical and boreal forests to discuss and compare the dynamics in tropical and boreal forests and their responses to a changing climate.

“Are tropical rain forests and boreal forests sinks or sources of carbon under severe fire, logging and global warming conditions?”

To find an answer to this question, researchers from various fields in tropical and boreal forest science should attend and present their recent research findings. A better understanding of forest dynamics will be secured through comparison and discussion. Both forests may play a very important potential role in reducing future global warming. New knowledge and a more complete synthesis of our global understanding should arise from this unique workshop.

Topics

Potential topics of discussion include:

  1. Ecosystem and climate interactions in tropical and boreal forests.

  2. Disturbance impacts and responses as caused by forest fire, logging, cultivation in tropical and boreal forests.

  3. Global warming impacts and interactions with disturbance, including greenhouse gas emissions, recovery trajectories and successional processes.

  4. Changes in forest utilization and forest products as impacted by changing climates and disturbance
